Supporting Worthy Causes

There are so many wonderful organizations in Greater Cincinnati that help others in need. We wanted to highlight some of these and maybe you will be inspired by what you read and offer to donate either your time, talent or treasures to one of them.

For a listing of local donation sites such as Goodwill please visit our Donation Sites page (some organizations may be listed in both spots).

Be the Match - You can make a difference in the life of someone with cancer by getting a simple swab test and registering with the Be the Match national bone marrow registry.  We held an event on May 23, 2011 in honor of Maya Collins who had Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Maya received a bone marrow transplant and it was a success.  She is now home and is cancer free (yippie)  Many thanks to Abuelo's for hosting the event, all the volunteers and especially to the donors for coming out to support Maya and others with cancer.

Super Strong Maya!

The Dragonfly Foundation is a local non-profit that works with the Cancer Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital to "bring moments of comfort and joy" to kids with cancer and blood disorders.

Desperate times call for desperate measures: The Dragonfly Foundation needs connections to celebrities and athletes who want to brighten the day of kids with cancer & blood diseases.

"Kids and young adults undergoing treatment for cancer and blood diseases go through trauma, both physical and mental, in the hope of a cure – trauma that continues long after treatment. This takes a tremendous toll on one’s spirit and ability to heal. To this end, The Dragonfly Foundation has created a Celebrity Bureau. We want to make it easier for celebrities to connect with kids/young adults with cancer and blood diseases, and for those kids to connect with celebrities during desperate times. If you know of anyone, or if you know people who know people, please contact us at info@TheDragonflyFoundation.org. We will keep all information confidential and manage secure connections." Gracious Giving Network -  blmkc@cinci.rr.com. (513-398-1583).

Kudos to Lynne & Bill Wilkinson for starting such a wonderful organization local to Mason.  They help women and families move out from shelters to start a new life.  They accept clothing, baby items, furniture, household goods, pots & pans and more.  Many of the women in the shelters had to quickly move out of their homes so they are starting completely over.  They will even come pick up your donated items.

Open your hearts to HART (Homeless Animal Rescue Team).  They rescue defenseless animals from the elements, cruelty and more. HART is an all volunteer, all foster based rescue group. They've been in business since October 2004. "We rescue, vet, love and adopt dogs and cats.  We provide many vet services and our adoption fee is minimal which means we rely on donations and fund raising to supplement our budget."

Kicks for Kids is a great organization to support.  It was started by former Bengal kicker, Doug Pelfrey to help at risk children (kids challenged either physically, mentally or environmentally).

March of Dimes, March for Babies - As a parent of two , I feel so blessed to have happy healthy girls. Many children face life threatening illnesses and the March of Dimes has been a saving grace for many families who have premature children.  They support local community programs so that mother's can have healthy full-term pregnancies and assist families who have premature births. The March for Babies is a wonderful walk to support.
