Here you’ll find my blog where I write about some of my own experiences as a Mom as well as post some awesome giveaways.   I’ll highlight certain features of MasonMetu that you might like to check out.

Thank you for reading my blog posts. I hope you can laugh along with me, preferably not at me. :) I've had fun writing the posts and I've found it is a great way to journal moments in our lives. One day when my girls are older, I'll be able to share these posts with them.

On some browsers (Internet Explorer), you may need to click on the current blog post in order to see the ghosts of blogs past - then it opens back up into the main blog page and you have to scroll down again for all the posts.  I know it's a bit confusing but I'm not quite sure how to work that bug out of the system yet.

How to leave a comment on a post:

If you'd like to leave a comment on a blog, please click on the title of the article you are reading, then scroll down and you'll find the place to leave the comment.

Really....does one foot have to be bigger than the other?

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Monday, October 25, 2010, In : Woe Is Me!
Yesterday, I headed up to Columbus to attend a friend's baby shower.  Always a happy occasion to celebrate new beginnings and new babes (they are adopting twins - yippie). It also gave me a chance to break free from from my typical jeans and  t-shirt attire.  It was so nice to reconnect with friends that I hadn't seen in so long.  Has it really been 20 years since college? It doesn't seem like that is possible. Time just keeps on ticking.   Go Ohio University Bobcats.

    Will I ever learn?

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Saturday, September 4, 2010, In : Woe Is Me!

Sometime I wonder if I have a mental block on learning.  This morning K runs in exclaiming S got a letter.  She excitedly hands it to S (who can't read yet) and then S asks me to read it.  In all of our excitement I tell her, "Yea, you just won a roller skating party like K did last spring".  S happily runs around the room and is beaming.  Then I drop the ball, "oh wait, you can't go you've got soccer that night."  Happiness quickly dissolves to tears and one upset five year old.  I don't bla...

    Kings Island, Are you Serious?

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Sunday, August 29, 2010, In : Woe Is Me!

Turning 40 is a BIG deal but surviving riding Firehawk is even bigger.  I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I asked my friend, LP, to go with me to Kings Island last week.  Kids in school? Check! Beautiful day with no humidity? Check! Moms ready to ride? Check! No lines? Priceless.

Kings Island and I go way way back.  I fondly remember the days when I would don that oh so flattering Bavarian frock and joyously serve park patrons puff pastry, cotton candy and funnel cakes. It was...

    My Worst Nightmare…..Became Reality.

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Thursday, August 19, 2010, In : Woe Is Me!
Our arrival for the tour - happy now, not so much later. :(

It’s that time of year......“Back to School”. For many of us that means back to routines, back to homework, back to bedtimes, back to sports, back to SANITY.  Like many of you, you may be getting your children prepared – giving them pep talks, purchasing school supplies and new clothes, setting up new rules or remembering old ones, and getting them organized (ok, who am I kidding getting me organized).  Part of our back to sch...

    "Flesh of a Fish".......

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Monday, May 17, 2010, In : Woe Is Me!

I wish Bubbles was this cute.

I never thought I’d be writing another post about fish but here goes.  First, I have to preface this by a little back-story (isn’t there always one?).  While away on a much needed Mom’s trip in January, I returned home and the first thing I noticed on my kitchen island was a fish tank with a fish.  Oh the joy! My girls excitedly ran over to me exclaiming that their Uncle M got them a fish.  In the back of my mind I’m thinking, “great, just another thing ...

Nothing Beats A Day at the Spa.....

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Thursday, April 22, 2010, In : Woe Is Me!
Nothing beats a day at the spa…..enjoying some pampering is a great way to start your day.  Throw in a pedicure, manicure, massage, shampoo and getting your hair styled is a little slice of heaven. Too bad, I wasn’t the one who got to enjoy it…..nope; it was our chocolate lab, Bailey.  Lucky girl! We started our normal morning routine where Bailey and I walk K to the bus stop.  When Bailey and I walk home, I let her off her leash and she runs in our backyard to go potty then she comes t...

    I’m a sucker…….One Mom's Cautionary Tale - Don't do what I did!

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Thursday, March 18, 2010, In : Woe Is Me!

Do  not follow my lead, do not go down the rabbit hole, do not pass go and collect $100.   If you have a facebook account then you know that you’ll get random things popping up on your pages (of course, you might consider MasonMetu one of those random things……”nah, that could never happen, right?” lol).  I still don’t know what Farmville is and not sure I want to know but I get requests to rescue a pig or help a cow and I just ignore them.  But last week, I got a notice that one o...

Is there a CAD support group out there?

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, In : Woe Is Me!

Could this be you? CAD strikes again!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the loyal MasonMetu readers.  I’ve been a bit behind in my blogging since I have developed CAD (Computer Attachment Disorder).  I am looking for a CAD support group somewhere/anywhere……  I know it’s bad when I’m writing a blog post as I’m watching one  of my all-time favorite shows, Lost.  It’s not doing me much good to constantly have to rewind the DVR so I can focus on what I missed.  I’m actually le...

    Dumpster Diving Goecke Style…….

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Friday, January 29, 2010, In : Woe Is Me!
I’ve written before how my kids have a very very difficult time parting with any of their toys and stuffed animals but my youngest has taken it to a new level.  If she puts any trash in the trashcan and sees that I’ve thrown away a picture or a school paper, then she reaches in and pulls out the item and rushes over to me asking, “Mommy, why did you throw this away?” “The guilt”….”the shame”….I feel  terrible.  I try to explain that we don’t need to keep every single ite...

Please Don't Take Us Off Your Holiday Card List.......

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, In : Woe Is Me!

    Merry Christmas!

Well, I don’t think I’m going to get them done this year.  Normally, I am on the ball but this year not so much.  So, if you don’t get a Christmas card from us this year, please keep us on your roster. We love getting the holiday cards and especially enjoy the holiday pictures. The girls always have fun seeing all their friends and loved ones.  It’s fun to see how your family has changed over the course of the year.  I didn’t completely give up on cards this year; I...

    Dirt Devil to the Rescue????

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, In : Woe Is Me!
I don’t know about you but since Thanksgiving is over I feel like I am in some crazy race to Christmas but I keep falling further and further behind and I feel like I’m never going to catch up (and it’s only Dec. 1).  There’s so much to do: get the Christmas cards done and mailed, decorate the house, put up the tree, purchase the Christmas gifts, wrap the gifts, attend holiday parties (luckily we got invited to some), make some holiday cookies (okay, who am I kidding I don’t make co...

    Cottell Park Vandalized

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, In : Woe Is Me!

Today, I got an email from Deerfield Township reporting that Cottell Park was vandalized.  The attached pictures they emailed are so upsetting.  Deerfield Township has worked so hard to make Cottell Park one of the best parks in this area.  They’ve added a wonderful new playground, new tennis courts, baseball fields, volleyball courts, picnic tables under covered gazebos, park benches, and they relocated the original playground near the restroom facilities.  This is where the desecration to...

    Swim Little Fishy, Swim......

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, In : Woe Is Me!
Once again, I don’t think I’ll win “Mother of the Year” with the tale I’m about to tell.  I took my girls to a festival recently since they were having free inflatables to jump in, free entertainment and free activities and games.  Sounded like a winning combination to me and the girls did have a wonderful time.  They were even more excited when they got to play the “pick a duck” game.  Here they had to pick a duck out of a swirling duck pond and if they got the correct number, ...

Are you part of the “Parent Paparazzi”? …….(“uhhh”, guilty swallow, “I am”)

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Monday, October 12, 2009, In : Woe Is Me!

I thought technology was supposed to make our lives easier? I’m really questioning that now since my digital camera is a part of me.  I almost feel naked if I leave home without it. I should holster it so I know that it’s always within easy reach. Ahhhhhh, it’s madness I say, MADNESS!!!!  I am now part of what I like to call, “The Parent Paparazzi” (TPP)  – you know you’re out there, don’t make me feel like I’m the only crazy one snapping pictures like my kids are at a photo...

    "Five More Minutes"......ahhhhhh!

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Saturday, September 26, 2009, In : Woe Is Me!

Memory lane is calling my name ……way back when I was an OU student (Go Bobcats), my childhood BFF was my roommate (love you Sue).  We were polar opposites with anything dealing with time.  My BFF was a bit slower getting ready and we nicknamed her “turtle” while, I , on the other hand, was a bit a lot more fast paced and was ready to go in no time flat.  If we were planning to go out, I used to tell Sue we were going out 30 minutes earlier than we actually were but I think she eventua...

    "You Hurt My Feelings"......

Posted by Kristin Goecke on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, In : Woe Is Me!
I took Pysch 101 way back when and I vaguely remember the professor trying to emphasize that for every negative reaction someone gives us, it takes a lot more positive responses to make up for it.  I don’t recall the exact stats but as parents, I’m sure you’ll agree.  Even as an adult, I can attest to that.  Just today, I got a curt email from a parent who wasn’t too thrilled that I sent them an email about MasonMetu.  Oh no……have I become a “spammer”?  I sure hope not.  Mason...

WARNINGDo Not Pass GoDo Not Collect $100 and Do Not Read this if you get offended by bodily functions, specifically poop.

“Mom, Sarah pooped in the tub…..ewwww…..gross”.  Ahhh, what a glorious day it has been and this was the cherry on top!  To come to Sarah’s defense, I don’t even think she realized that one teeny tiny little poopie was on the way out – she seemed about as surprised as I was.  “Sarah, did you really just poop in the tub?” Sarah quickly gets out of...
