MasonMetu™ Blog
Here you’ll find my blog where I write about some of my own experiences as a Mom as well as post some awesome giveaways. I’ll highlight certain features of MasonMetu that you might like to check out.
Thank you for reading my blog posts. I hope you can laugh along with me, preferably not at me. :) I've had fun writing the posts and I've found it is a great way to journal moments in our lives. One day when my girls are older, I'll be able to share these posts with them.
On some browsers (Internet Explorer), you may need to click on the current blog post in order to see the ghosts of blogs past - then it opens back up into the main blog page and you have to scroll down again for all the posts. I know it's a bit confusing but I'm not quite sure how to work that bug out of the system yet.
How to leave a comment on a post:

On Thursday, I had to get my wisdom teeth out. Yes, I should’ve done it when I was 18 but I didn’t. Of course, my surgeon kept reinforcing that “because of your age”, you may have more difficulty, “because of your age your recovery may be longer”, “because of your age…..blah, blah, blah. I told him I may be more resilient than he thinks. I think I was right. First let me tell you what happened as they were waking me up in recovery. The nurse asked, “Is someone here wit... Things That Go Bump in the Night.....
Ahhh, I’m back to talking about sleep again. When you don’t get enough, it’s always on your mind (I’m singing Willie Nelson right now). Of course, watching the Oscars at a friends until Midnight didn’t help, but the subsequent course of events did contribute to my further sleep deprived life. We already know that I did stay out late. Luckily I fell fast asleep, but it only lasted for a whopping 60 minutes. Yup, one whole hour – whoo hoo! At 1:00 a.m. Sarah came into our room. ... Continue reading ...
Trying to Be Hip - but not quite there!

MasonMetu Blog - if you have any comments or related stories, email kjgoecke@gmail.com and I can post them
I got new glasses recently. They are oh so cool and hip. I, of course, have been shamelessly pointing them out to all my friends and family. I even harassed, my good friend, Stacy, who was in town from Columbus last week. I told her, “Stac, you really haven’t looked at me”. She’s like “Gov (my nickname), what are you talking about?” and then she finally saw the light. LOL... Continue reading ...
"Bribery - a Mom's tools of the trade"

Mom to Mom
Yes, I admit it; I’m not above bribing my children. C’mon, I know you’ve probably done it too. I’ve gotten to the point where I no longer want to clean up after them. I got tired of putting the same toys away over and over again. I used to be one of those Moms who would organize all the toys each night – what was I thinking???? The next day, they’d just get jumbled up once more. So, a little bribery goes a long way. I know some of the child experts will probably disagree but ... Continue reading ...
Great Mom to Mom Suggestion - Chore Chart

Mom to Mom
I’m sure many of you have some difficulty with the “dreaded” school morning routine where 1) you have to get up (remember those days of uninterrupted sleep?); 2) your kids have to get up; 3) they need to eat; 4) they need to get dressed, brush teeth, etc.; 5) they have to get to the bus stop (on time); and 6) you try not to loose your mind….Well, my friend, Sue Sivertson emailed me a great suggestion to help you and your kids in the morning. She developed a fantastic chore chart. Se... Continue reading ...
I'm "my own" Broken Record
I should record myself some day. I wonder how many times I’ve said, “Do you have to go potty?”; “Did you wash your hands?”; “Did you actually go potty?” Over and over again, the same three phrases, repeated throughout the day. I even get tired of hearing me. I think the reminders are justified since my girls will “forget” to go potty if I don’t remind them or they get engrossed in some activity and they don’t want to take the time out to go potty. So, I’ve resolved... Continue reading ...
I Say “Potato” - You Say “Potahto”
I can’t win – no matter what I say or do, I just can’t win. I’m not sure about you but in my house even if I’m thinking I’m using the “correct psychology” with kids, I usually get it wrong. My four year old finally gets her own invitation to a birthday party and her older sister isn’t invited (usually it’s the other way around). So, I thought she would be so excited. I said, “Sarah, you get to go to a birthday party on Friday”. Kaitlin then asked, “What about me,... Continue reading ...
A Blast from the Past
There are so many television choices and programs on now that you just can’t keep up, but we recently found the Boomerang channel on demand and it has all these old cartoons that I watched as a kid – Scooby Doo, Josie & the Pussycats, The Jetsons, etc. My daughters are now hooked on Jabber Jaw (but they call it “Jammer” Jaw). I have to laugh when I see it because there is this big shark, Jabber Jaw, who literally runs around with a crew of kids (very similar to Scooby Doo’s group ... Continue reading ...
A Four Year Old's Perspective
Today, Sarah & I did our normal Friday routine – library then dance. If you would have seen us before we left for story time, you would have thought some major tragedy had occurred. I guess in the mind of a four year old, it did. I had gathered all the library books and DVD's to return to the library and was finishing getting ready when Sarah comes running in my room, tears streaming down her sweet little face. My first thought was that she got hurt, but nope, she was just clutching a S... Continue reading ...
I slept great last night.....NOT!
|
I never thought that I would fondly cherish the times when I could actually sleep in, sleep uninterrupted, and go to sleep easily (no help from Tylenol PM). Those days are over – long, long gone! My friends know that the sleeping patterns in the Goecke household have been a difficult journey but I thought that we finally got it right until this past week. Since I have been obsessed with getting MasonMetu launched, I have been staying up very late to work on it, but my youngest, S... | Continue reading ...

Fun & Easy Science Experiment
My Mom got us a great book called 730 Easy Science Experiments. Easy is the key word here. Kaitlin was going through the book and wanted to try one out. This is what you need:
- Drinking glass (clear one is best)
- Water
- Bowl
- 2 paper towels
Fill the glass with water; twist the paper towels together so they form a tight & long wick. Place one end of the wick in the glass of water and one end in the bowl. After a few minutes the wick will sta... Continue reading ...
Winning Superbowl Chili Recipe

Recipes
We went to a really great Superbowl party tonight at our friends. They were having a chili cook-off and everyone had to bring a pot of chili and then we did secret judging. The categories were A) Favorite, B) Spiciest & C) Most Unique. I almost didn’t enter my crock-pot of wonder since it technically wasn’t a chili – more like a dip for tortilla chips but I thought, why not, and threw myself into the mix. Now, not to brag (ok, well maybe a little) but I did win a chili cook-off one y... Continue reading ...
