Enjoying Rock Climbing at Lifetime Fitness

Fitness Centers actually focus a lot on families so if you have an active family, then some of these places might be worth checking into.  They all have great facilities, wonderful programs and, of course, something near and dear to my heart - plenty of exercise machines and exercise classes (I hope my friends aren't laughing too hard right now).

There's also racquetball, tennis, basketball, strength training, Pilates and a large indoor athletic field.   They also have a Kids Studio and childcare is offered free with your membership. Birthday parties are also held here and you can choose from a gymnastics, sports and swimming theme. Located off of Red Bank Rd.

Five Seasons Sports Club - www.FiveSeasonsSportsClub.com -  11790 Snider Rd., Cincinnati, Ohio 45249. (513) 392-4364. Offering tennis, swimming, group fitness classes, massages, Zumba classes, indoor track, and much more.

Just Move It! Dance - www.justmoveitdance.com - If you want to have fun while getting in a great cardio workout then take one of LIzette Perez's classes.  You can find her energetic dance classes (geared for all ability levels) at the NCYB Dance Academy on Mondays at 9:30am and Thursdays at 5pm.

Lifetime Fitness - www.lifetimefitness.com. 8310 Wilkens Boulevard, Mason, OH  45040 (513-234-0660).  I'm a bit biased towards Lifetime since we're members but I absolutely love this place.  It has a wonderful huge outdoor pool with 0-depth entry, a mushroom water feature, two waterslides, and an area for lap swimming.  There are plenty of seats surrounding the pool and they have an outdoor cafe.  There's also an outdoor hot tub.

One of the bonuses of being a member is being able to use their child care center so I sometimes tell my girls that Mommy needs to "work out" so they get to go have fun in an awesome and fun supervised and very safe indoor child's play area and then I'll head to the pool for an hour by myself to relax or read a book and then I'll come back to get them to swim.  It makes a happy day for all involved.

When the outdoor pool closes for the season, head inside to the wonderful indoor pool facilities complete with waterslides, hot tubs and fun. They also have a huge indoor soccer field - sometimes we go and just let the girls run around, kick a soccer ball and have some fun.  There's an indoor rock climbing wall (ages 5 and up) and my daughter, Kaitlin, really likes this.  There are basketball courts and racquet ball courts as well.  Additionally, there is a cafe on site that has some really good kid's meals.

For the adults (and kid's ages 12 and up), in addition to the swimming facilities, Lifetime's second floor specifically caters to the work out enthusiast - they have it all from bikes to eliptical trainers, to free weights to nautilus type equipment.  They have rowing machines and  step machines - everything and anything you could ever want to work out with - they even have personal trainers that you can hire to keep you motivated.  In addition to the work out equipment, they offer plenty of free work out classes to help you reach your fitness goals. There locker rooms are unbelievable and they have saunas and steam rooms in both the men's and women's rooms.  There are free towels to use so you don't have to lug those around with you. An on-site hair salon and spa is also available to use (general public can make appointments as well).

Mason Community Center - www.imaginemason.org. 6050 Mason-Montgomery Road, Mason, Ohio (513-229-8555). The MCC has so much to offer for families.  They have indoor swimming, an indoor track, basketball courts, workout facilities, and so much more.  Please check out their website for all the programs that MCC has -  I guarantee there will be something there to interest you or your child. The MCC has been undergoing renovations to expand their workout facilities and so much more.  Stop by to see their progress and see this fantastic community gathering place.

Mercy HealthPlex - In addition to their fitness centers and wellness programs, they offer swim lessons and have swimming facilities (featuring the Red Cross learn-to-swim programs).  Check their website on how to join.

StrollerFit - www.strollerfit.com -  I wish I would've know about StrollerFit after having my kids since it is a great place to make new Mommy friends while having your children on site with you as you move and groove and have fun - is this really exercise?  Check out StrollerFit with Denyce Holley.  She's a local Mason Mom who has opened two StrollerFit franchises.  I think of StrollerFit as a mobile fitness center since many of her classes are held outdoors during the warmer months.  You can also read more about Denyce and why she opened her own franchise on Associated Content. You can email Denyce at denyce.holley@strollerfit.com or call (513) 754-2280 for more information or log onto her website for class times and schedules.

The Lakota Family YMCA - www.LakotaYMCA.com. 6703 Yankee Rd. Liberty Twp., Ohio 45044 (513-779-3917).  Another great YMCA offering swimming (indoor and outdoor), climbing play area, basketball courts, exercise facilities, programs and much more.

The Ralphe J. Stolle Countryside YMCA (Lebanon)www.countrysideymca.org. 1699 Deerfield Road, Lebanon, Ohio 45036 (513-932-1424).  I haven't been to this facility myself but I've had friends who have and they enjoy the YMCA.  They have so many programs that are geared towards kids that you really need to check out their website for more information.  They have swimming pools, basketball courts, work out facilities and much more!

  • YMCA Express -  If you need a quick 30 minute work out then stop in to the YMCA Express.  They even have child care available on site. 3116 US Highway 22/3, Maineville, OH 45039. (513) 583-5580.

Tri-Health Pavilion - www.trihealthpavilion.com - Fitness and wellness facility located off of I-71 at the Pfeiffer Rd. exit.  Offering a variety of memberships. They have fitness equipment, classes, swimming facilities, a spa, cafe and more. They also have the Kids' Life Center where kids can enjoy fitness activities and have fun while you work out (you pay for up to 2 hours of care). 513-985-0900.
